A Piece of Sir Pizza History
As a young man, Bob Swartz worked at PIZZA KING, his mother and father's pizza restaurant in the college town of Muncie, Indiana. After helping his parents develop a cup system for their recipes that produced a consistent product, the restaurant flourished and expanded 5 times. With such success, the family received numerous offers from others to buy their recipes and techniques. It was then that the Swartz's decided to franchise their restaurant and incorporate as Sir Pizza in 1965.
Phil Butler Sr., a long-time friend of Bob Swartz, bought the rights to franchise for the state of North Carolina. He has since retired and his son, Phil Butler Jr. and family continue to operate several successful Sir Pizza restaurants in NC as well as a USDA plant, Butler Foods, the Sir Pizza commissary. This commissary supplies all the food products for the Sir Pizza restaurants in North Carolina.
The outlook for the future is excellent as Sir Pizza continues to succeed and provide a quality product to a loyal, growing customer base.
